BASIC OVERVIEW

SK IT Solution BD is a company that provides a wide range of services. The website says the business was founded in 2015, however, information available online about the company says it was founded in 2017. The domain was also not registered until 2019.

According to their website, their services include Digital Marketing, Graphics Design, Hacking, Software Development, Web Development, Content Writing and Business Development. Another one of their many services is Bad Review Removal – they offer to remove bad reviews for businesses from review platforms, including Trustpilot.

SITE CREDIBILITY

Running the site through ScamAdviser’s Scam Analyzer revealed the domain name had been reserved for a six (6) year stretch – from 2019 to 2025. This is typically a good thing as it shows the company plans to be around for a while and is not merely a here-today-gone-tomorrow kind of operation.

Information on the website’s ‘About’ page, particularly about when the company was founded conflicted with other open-source information that was available online. There was no contact email listed on the site either, only the company address and phone number. It was also strange that the company phone number shown on the website did not match the phone number on Google’s location listing in relation to the contact address shown on the website. The contact email on the Company’s Facebook page was listed as info@skitsolutionbd.com. A verification check however revealed the email address to be invalid. This claim was further corroborated when efforts to contact the company from the website led to a reply from the email address patriciapatricia8257168@gmail.com. This contact person also declined further communication via email and opted for Skype instead. They (said contact person) also provided an alternative WhatsApp number that could also be used instead of Skype.

It is important to note that the company was contacted as would a customer intending to purchase one of their services.

The service of interest was the Trustpilot review removal service. The business representative offered proof of validity of this service in the form of screenshots and URLs of a certain business’ negative reviews on Trustpilot. The name of this business has been withheld for privacy and we will call it SAMPLE BIZ.

Below, snippets of our conversation with SK IT Solution BD are attached:

A check of SAMPLE BIZ on Trustpilot showed it had seven (7) reviews – five 5-star, one 4-star and one 1-star review. One of the reviews is from February 2021 while the remaining six (6) are from November 2021. The reviews in the screenshots received from skitsolutionbd.com were currently not reflected on SAMPLE BIZ’s Trustpilot review page and skitsolutionbd explained this to be as a result of their review removal service.

A further look at the review transparency page of SAMPLE BIZ on Trustpilot revealed that the business had actually flagged eight (8) reviews on its profile in the last 12 months and seven (7) of these reviews have been removed by Trustpilot.

SAMPLE BIZ’s business description identifies it as a business offering tax and other financial services to US-based customers. It was therefore quite suspicious that the business’ reviews came from users everywhere BUT the United States of America. Of the seven (7) reviews available on the company page, three (3) were from Turkey and the remaining four (4) spread across Belgium, Portugal, Pakistan and Vietnam. As at the time of this report, SAMPLE BIZ was also yet to verify any company information to Trustpilot. The necessary company information typically includes:

  1. Proof of Identity: Proof of identity of a user associated with the business account
  2. Contact Details: A Google My Business account verified and synced to the businesses
  3. Registered Domain Name Ownership: Domain name confirmed in a third-party database
  4. Bank Account: Bank account registered during subscription process

USER REVIEWS

On its website, skitsolutionbd.com had only a Facebook profile linked to it. A quick search on Google however revealed additional LinkedIn and Twitter accounts as well. The social media accounts were discovered to lack user engagement though, and the business’ last posts on both Facebook and Twitter were in July 2021. The last post on LinkedIn – a cryptic job posting - was in May 2021.

The job posting included a number of questionable details such as the job location being Bangladesh even though the company location has been specified as New York. The contact email was also a generic Gmail address, while no job description was specified as well.

There were also no reviews available for skitsolution.com on Trustpilot either. The search results indicated somewhat of a ban from from Trustpilot.

PAYMENT EXPERIENCE

The payment options on skitsolutionbd.com are PayPal, Payoneer, MoneyGram, Western Union and Cryptocurrencies. PayPal services were unavailable at the time this report was written so the wallet details could not be verified. Nonetheless, the email address associated with the Payoneer account was shown not to be a businessemail but a generic Hotmail address. This also indicated suspicious behaviour.

CONCLUSION

There were several discrepancies noted while reviewing SK IT Solution BD that raised questions about the legitimacy of the business. Among these issues was the differing contact phone numbers given across various platforms, the non-validity of the business contact email address and resultant fall-back on generic email addresses, as well as the business’ sketchy social media presence and reviews. The choice of payment platforms was also questionable. With all these findings, it would be advisable to exercise caution while dealing with this business as it may likely be a fraudulent operation.

As the influence of the internet rises, so does the prevalence of online scams. There are fraudsters making all kinds of claims to trap victims online - from fake investment opportunities to online stores - and the internet allows them to operate from any part of the world with anonymity. The ability to spot online scams is an important skill to have as the virtual world is increasingly becoming a part of every facet of our lives. The below tips will help you identify the signs which can indicate that a website could be a scam. Common Sense: Too Good To Be True When looking for goods online, a great deal can be very enticing. A Gucci bag or a new iPhone for half the price? Who wouldn’t want to grab such a deal? Scammers know this too and try to take advantage of the fact. If an online deal looks too good to be true, think twice and double-check things. The easiest way to do this is to simply check out the same product at competing websites (that you trust). If the difference in prices is huge, it might be better to double-check the rest of the website. Check Out the Social Media Links Social media is a core part of ecommerce businesses these days and consumers often expect online shops to have a social media presence. Scammers know this and often insert logos of social media sites on their websites. Scratching beneath the surface often reveals this fu

So the worst has come to pass - you realise you parted with your money too fast, and the site you used was a scam - what now? Well first of all, don’t despair!! If you think you have been scammed, the first port of call when having an issue is to simply ask for a refund. This is the first and easiest step to determine whether you are dealing with a genuine company or scammers. Sadly, getting your money back from a scammer is not as simple as just asking.  If you are indeed dealing with scammers, the procedure (and chance) of getting your money back varies depending on the payment method you used.
