First and Third-Party Review Systems

This website is using a so called first party review system, which means that the reviews shown can be modified or deleted by the site owner directly. This implies that the reviews shown may not be real and trustworthy.

There are two ways in which a website can collect customer reviews:

  • 3rd party reviews: Websites using 3rd party reviews are likely to be more legit, because they owner of the webshop cannot remove or edit these reviews directly not can they change the order in which they are presented. The reviews are managed by a third party which makes manipulation of reviews by the website owner more difficult. Website owners can only apply for removal or changing of the review via a third party.
  • 1st party reviews: Some websites will use a review system which allows them to remove, edit or manipulate the order in which the reviews are presented. These websites are not automatically cheating; however, these reviews are less trustworthy. Examples of these 1st Party Review Systems are or

Since there are many different reviews sites and systems, we recommend to search a few to determine whether a website is legit.

  • Google reviews: it is the most popular reviews service that exist right now. It covers all the businesses if they appear to have an account
  • Facebook (other social media sites): With at least third of earth`s population using social media, it is likely that the business will have its page and now you can write a review instantly on their page. Businesses cannot moderate this review system, however, do not trust it 100% since it is easier for people to spam on social media
  • Trust Pilot: Trust pilot has established itself as one of the key 3rd party reviews services. It is constantly expanding and covers all types of businesses
  • Trip Advisor: The most popular review sites for hotels, restaurants, flights and everything related to traveling. Many websites use Trip Advisor reviews to showcase the satisfaction of its services.

Other smaller review systems are:

  • Bazaarvoice
  • Bizrate
  • eKomi
  • E-Komerco
  • Feedback Company
  • Feefo
  • KiyOh
  • Klantenvertellen
  • Poulpeo
  • PowerReviews
  • ResellerRatings
  • Reevoo
  • Shopper Approved
  • ShopAuskunft
  • StellaService
  • TrustedCompany
  • Trusted Shops
  • Trustpilot
  • Verified Reviews
  • Yotpo
  • Zoorate

Of course, also the reviews on Scamadviser cannot be directly edited, removed or manipulated by the website owner.

A word of caution; while the website owner cannot directly manage the reviews shown on these platforms, manipulation still happens as website owners add reviews themselves, pay others to leave positive reviews and try to remove negative reviews at all costs (often threatening these review systems with lawyers).
