News-Medical apparently specializes in popularizing "medical news" that has not been peer reviewed although that is not emphasized in the titles of the articles they publish. Although the articles are rife with medical jargon and specific study
information they seem targeted to well... Trump supporters in the general public. A recent article "Hydroxychloroquine +Azithromycin therapy at a higher dose improved survival by nearly 200% in ventilated COVID patients" was presented to me by a job applicant in Alabama as partial justification for why she has not gotten the vaccine. My investigation of the article revealed that a paper was evidently posted to something called medRxiv which turns out to be a publisher of "medical" information that has not been peer-reviewed. The article was written by an OB-GYN who "graduated from Government Medical College, University of Calicut, Kerala. She practiced as a full-time consultant ... for a few years following her graduation". During that time she evidently saw a lot of patients and delivered a lot of babies. My applicant and most of those making comments on this article completely overlooked the disclaimer marked "Important Notice" in very large letters. There it is written that medRxiv "publishes preliminary scientific reports that are not peer-reviewed and, therefore, should not be regarded as conclusive, guide clinical practice/health related behavior, or treated as established information. Sure would have been better to put that in the title. God help Alabama with its 30% double vaccinated population.
